Our Story

Obsidian Security was founded in 2017 to solve the unaddressed blindspot of SaaS Security. SaaS applications provide the tools employees need to succeed, holding the most business-critical information as a result. If those tools become unavailable or that data is jeopardized, there is a detrimental impact on the organization.

Since our inception, we’ve been laser-focused on making the impact of SaaS breaches a thing of the past for our customers. While the challenges related to that mission have continued to evolve, we have proudly stayed one step ahead and continue to offer the industry’s most comprehensive and powerful SaaS defense solution.

2017

Obsidian Security is founded in Newport Beach and raises Series A funding.

2018

Obsidian onboards its first customers to the platform which supports 10 business-critical SaaS applications including Microsoft 365, Slack, and Okta.

2019

Obsidian raises Series B funding and officially releases the SaaS activity timeline on the platform.

2020

Over 15 SaaS applications are supported by Obsidian, including Google Workspace, Salesforce and Workday.

Obsidian releases the CrowdStrike Connector and launches a strategic IR partnership with CrowdStrike.

Obsidian onboards its first Fortune 500 company to solve for Session Hijacking

2021

Hasan Imam joins Obsidian Security as its Chief Executive Officer.

Obsidian comes to the San Francisco Bay Area with the opening of its new Redwood City office.

SaaS posture management is added to the Obsidian platform to help security teams proactively protect their applications.

2022

Obsidian raises its $90 million Series C round to cement its leadership in the SaaS security industry.

Obsidian establishes its EMEA CIO Advisory Board and a partnership with NORMA Cyber.

Obsidian Security receives official certification as a Great Place to Work!

2023

Integration Risk Management, Compliance, and Extend are added to the Obsidian platform to provide security and GRC teams the most comprehensive SaaS security coverage.

Obsidian received official certification as a Great Place to Work for the second year in a row!
